Thank you for your interest in our research study, Clinical validation of heart rate measurements using wearable technology, or "MiHeaRT". As a regular exerciser, runner, and/or cyclist, you may be eligible to participate.

Here's more information about the study:

We are seeking to recruit regular exercisers, runners, and cyclists between the ages of 18-65 years who are able to run one mile in 8 minutes or faster and are able to ride a stationary bicycle.

This study will consist of one visit to our lab that will take approximately 2 hours. At this visit, we will collect demographic/baseline information such as but not limited to height, weight, wrist dominance, blood pressure, ankle flexibility, etc. We will also take measurements of your wrists and your ankles using a non-invasive ultrasound machine. We will then apply several study devices to your body such as exercise watches, an electrocardiogram (ECG), Polar heart rate strap(s), and a metabolic face mask to measure your body's response to exercise. We will also attach sensors to the laces of your shoes. We will then ask you to complete three bouts of exercise lasting approximately 10-15 minutes each and separated by about 10 minutes of active recovery and rest. The first session will be a run on the treadmill of staged increases in speed reaching up to at least 8:00/mile. The second session will be an interval run on the treadmill alternating between walking (20:00/mile) and running (8:00/mile). The third session will be on a stationary bicycle with staged increases in workload reaching up to at least 150W.

You will also be asked to complete an electronic questionnaire prior to your visit.

Each subject will receive a $100 check for completing the in-lab visit.

To determine whether you meet the eligibility requirements for our study, please complete the following survey.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the study team at miheart.study@umich.edu.
